It’s the first day of school for many students, but a driver is getting a lesson from the Stratford Police Service. In a social media post at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, police said the driver was stopped at 7:52 a.m. after they were allegedly travelling at 97 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on O’Loane Avenue. The 41-year-old was charged with stunt driving, their licence was suspended for 30 days and their vehicle was impounded for 14 days. Although this driver was not in a school zone, police across the province are once again urging drivers to be cautious on all roadways as many children return to school this week. Several police services are hosting back-to-school blitzes in an attempt to curb poor driving behaviours, particularly in school zones and around school buses. The Stratford Police Service has warned the traffic unit will be stationing fully marked patrol vehicles near schools as a reminder to drivers. “Officers will be focusing on speeding, using a cellphone while driving, stop signs, pedestrian crosswalks and failing to stop for school buses,” a separate social media post said.
