The Kitchener Rangers opened their preseason with a 3-2 win over the Sarnia Sting on Sunday. Kitchener never trailed in the game, but Sarnia kept the pressure on and did not allow the Rangers to build more than a one-goal lead. Haeden Ellis opened the scoring in the first period, giving Kitchener a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission. Sarnia tied the game early in the second when Carter Chadwick scored. Weston Cameron restored Kitchener’s lead on the power play, but Matthew Manza tied the game again just 47 seconds later. Charlie Puglisi then scored the eventual game-winner, putting Kitchener ahead 3-2. The Rangers held the lead through the third period, with Jason Schaubel making four saves to preserve the victory. The Rangers will return home Friday for the preseason summer showcase, hosting the Oshawa Generals at 7 p.m. The Erie Otters and Saginaw Spirit are also taking part in the three-day showcase.
