Police say body found in search for Kitchener native Jeffrey Boucher

WHITBY, Ont. -- A body found in Whitby was believed to be that of a teacher who went missing in January, police said Saturday.

The body, found Saturday afternoon by a citizen out for a walk along the shore of Lake Ontario, was believed to be that of 52-year-old Jeffrey Boucher, Durham Regional Police Det. Jeff Kennedy told reporters Saturday evening.

"We're awaiting the result from the coroner's investigation, but I feel fairly comfortable in saying this possibly may come to an end now from this discovery," he said.

Boucher went missing Jan. 13 after it's believed he left his home to go jogging.

Extensive search efforts failed to locate him, but one of his shoes was found earlier this month and the other shoe was found earlier Saturday, Kennedy said.

The investigation into Boucher's disappearance was continuing. Police hoped a post-mortem examination would reveal a cause of death, Kennedy said.

"We investigated many different scenarios, we don't suspect any foul play at this point," he said. "There is no reason for anybody to be concerned about anything suspicious here."

It was not immediately clear when an autopsy would be done.

The family was notified about the discovery on Saturday. They were asking for privacy, but were grateful for the public's help in the search efforts for Boucher.
