The Special Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal shooting, involving Ontario Provincial Police, in Turkey Point. The SIU said officers were patrolling at the Turkey Point Marina around 1 p.m. when they spotted a “personal watercraft that got their attention.” They tried to stop the operator, but he continued towards the marina, got out of the watercraft and into the bushes. The OPP’s Emergency Response Team and a canine unit were called in to find the man. “There was an interaction between police and the man,” the SIU said in a media release Wednesday. “One officer discharged an Anti-Riot Weapon ENField, and another officer discharged his firearm. The 22-year-old man appears to have been struck by both firearms. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.” The SIU investigates all incidents involving police where there has been a death, serious injury, discharge of a firearm or allegations of sexual assault.
