A Fergus man is facing seven charges after an officer was assaulted during an intimate partner violence investigation, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say. Police said officers were called at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday after a witness reported seeing one person strike another on a bridge, before the pair moved to a nearby residential area in Fergus. Officers located the two individuals a short time later. The OPP said the person accused of the initial assault then became involved in a physical confrontation with officers. Police deployed a conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a taser, and took the individual into custody. An officer and the accused were transported to a hospital as a precaution. As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old Fergus resident has been charged with assault-spousal, assault with intent to resist arrest, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and four counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
