Online fundraiser launched for mother who died after family struck at Guelph crosswalk

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support the children of a woman who was struck by a vehicle while walking with her family in Guelph last week

The collision happened on Sept. 19 at a crosswalk at the intersection of Paisley Road and Alma Street North.

Guelph Police said the 38-year-old, her 38-year-old husband and three-year-old daughter, who was in a stroller, were hit as they were walking in the crosswalk.

All three were taken to Guelph General Hospital. The woman’s husband was not seriously hurt.

Police said the girl was airlifted to a trauma centre in Hamilton but she was released the same night.

“The driver did remain on scene – a 19-year-old from Northern Ontario,” Scott Tracey, spokesperson for the Guelph Police Service, told CTV News in an interview on Monday. “He did stop immediately after the collision and remained on scene and spoked with officers.”

On Friday, friends confirmed the woman, identified by loved ones as Alisha, died in hospital on Sept. 19.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved friend, Alisha,” the campaign reads in part. “Her warmth, kindness and unwavering love for her family and friends touched everyone who knew her. Her loss is profound, and the grief is immeasurable.”

The fundraiser aims to raise $90,000 to help provide financial stability for her children. As of Friday afternoon, it had collected more than $50,000.

“We hope that through this collective effort, we can help ease some of the barriers and challenges that come with losing a parent at such a young age,” the campaign states.

Guelph Police have not released further details about the investigation into the collision.
