New youth wellness hub opens in Cambridge

The Cambridge Youth Wellness Hub is one of 10 new hubs the government is adding to the network of 24 hubs already opened or in development, bringing the total to 32 across the province.

The Ontario government has announced the opening of a new Youth Wellness Hub in Cambridge, aimed at making it faster and easier for young people to access mental health and addiction supports.

The Cambridge Youth Wellness Hub is one of 10 new locations added to a growing provincial network, bringing the total to 32 hubs across Ontario.

Deputy Premier and Health Minister Sylvia Jones said the expansion is part of ongoing efforts to “build a connected and convenient system of care” for youth and families.

The new hub, designed for youth aged 12 to 25, offers free, walk-in services including mental health and substance use support, primary care, social services, peer programs and skill-building workshops.

Recently renovated, the centre now includes a nurse practitioner’s office, larger group areas and a kitchen space for food and nutrition programs.

Cambridge Mayor Jan Liggett called it a pivotal moment.

“And from the bottom of my heart, and I mean that sincerely, I think that we are finally going to get somewhere,” she said. “We’ve been spinning our wheels for many many years. But this is leading us on a path toward a very solid solution.”

The hub was co-designed by Langs Community Health Centre and the YWHO Cambridge Youth Advisory Council to ensure programs reflect community needs. It operates out of Langs’ facility, which also includes a gym, walking track, courtyard and community kitchen.

“Youth Wellness Hubs are about providing young people with the supports they need to connect and thrive,” said Vijay Thanigasalam, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, in a media release. “By expanding this network, we’re strengthening Ontario’s mental health and addictions system and making it easier for youth to get convenient, integrated care in a safe, welcoming space that meets their needs.”
