Mississauga man arrested in Sportsworld Crossing robbery

A man from Mississauga is facing charges in a Kitchener robbery.

Waterloo Regional Police Service said the robbery happened in the Sportsworld Crossing Road area around 4 a.m. on July 11.

Investigators said the victim accepted a rideshare request and picked up the suspect in the King Street North area of Waterloo. They were told the passenger became disruptive during the drive, and the driver ended the ride the in the Sportsworld Crossing Road area. The suspect then damaged the vehicle, assaulted the driver and stole their belongings.

Police found the suspect in a nearby bush.

A 19-year-old man was charged with robbery and mischief under $5,000.
