Waterloo Regional Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a shooting in downtown Kitchener. It happened just before 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Duke Street and Scott Street. “Through the investigation, officers determined that a confrontation occurred between several individuals before shots were fired,” police said in a media release. “The involved parties fled the area prior to police arrival.” No injuries were reported. Investigators believe it was a targeted incident but no further details have been released about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. “Multiple suspects and potential victims are outstanding, including witnesses,” Const. Melissa Quarry, with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, told CTV News on Saturday. “It’s not believed that any businesses were targeted, it was more so individuals involved. No damage to any buildings have been reported or detected.” The road reopened at approximately 1 a.m. Police confirmed the shooting was the ninth one reported in 2026. “Anytime we have violence in our community, that is a safety concern,” said Quarrie, adding that investigators are looking for additional leads in the case.
