Guelph Police arrested a man who they say fled a collision before driving his smashed car the wrong way through a drive-thru. Police were called to a McDonald’s restaurant at Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road just before midnight on Sunday. Staff said a man in a heavily damaged car entered the drive-thru via the exit. When officers arrived, they blocked the vehicle in. Police said the driver, shortly before going to McDonald’s, had rear-ended an SUV at the intersection of Victoria Road North and Eramosa Road and then fled. “Officers noted the man had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet,” police said in a news release. Breath tests revealed he was over the legal limit, according to police. The 49-year-old from Elmira was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failure to stop after an accident. Police believe the suspect’s vehicle may have also been involved in a second collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact them.
