Waterloo Regional Police say one person has serious injuries after they were struck by an ION train in front of Grand River Hospital in Kitchener. First responders were called to King Street West and Pine Street around noon Wednesday for an incident involving a pedestrian and LRT train. Police said the pedestrian was taken to a hospital outside the region. Shortly after, officers were seen examining the front bumper which had been removed from the train. No details have been shared about what happened leading up the incident. The collision also brought LRT service to standstill between downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo. Train service was suspended between Waterloo Public Square and Grand River Hospital, and shuttle buses were brought in to help passengers get to their destination. As of 4 p.m., detours were still in place. Waterloo Regional Police said they continue to investigate the incident.
