A 50-year-old has been charged for an incident that drew a large police presence to Elmira on Wednesday. Ontario Provincial Police said multiple units were called to Timber Trail Road around 12:15 p.m. for a person in crisis, including the West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), the West Region Tactical Response Unit (TRU), the West Region Crisis Negotiator Team and the Wellington County Crime Unit. While the area is usually under the jurisdiction of Waterloo Regional Police, the OPP said a request was put in for their assistance. Neighbours, meanwhile, were urged to shelter in place while officers dealt with the situation. A 50-year-old resident was eventually taken into police custody. OPP said they were charged with pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. During the arrest, OPP said the accused got aggressive and one officer sustained minor injuries. The 50-year-old was also charged with assaulting a peace officer.
