The Kitchener Rangers are the 2026 OHL champions after sweeping their series with the Barrie Colts in just four games on Tuesday night. Rangers Captain Cameron Reid’s family made the trip from Aylmer to Barrie on Tuesday night. They said they were confident the team would win, but they are still soaking it all in. “We were in the section with a lot of the families, so everybody was going nuts. I got teary, and I’m already crying. It was awesome. I was hollering and crying and hugging, it was awesome,” Tanya Tilton-Reid, Cameron Reid’s mother said. “Watching him raise [the J. Ross Robertson Cup] - when we hugged him he was in tears, we were in tears. It was remarkable.” “It’s massive. This has been a goal of his for as long as I can remember,” Bill Reid, Cameron Reid’s father, said. “That’s something that has been huge for him and we saw it in his emotions last night as well after the win.” “It’s unreal. This is just amazing. Words can’t really describe it,” Reid told media after the game. The Rangers took the lead in the third period, Sam O’Reilly potted an insurance goal late in the third and then the celebration was on. “It was awesome. Just a special goal and I won’t forget it,” Sam O’Reilly, forward for the Kitchener Rangers, told media after the game. In Kitchener, Rangers faithful gathered outside the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium and waited in the rain until around two in the morning Wednesday to welcome their team home. The Rangers have a few days to celebrate properly before they need to focus on the next task: the Memorial Cup in Kelowna, B.C. “We’re super excited. Whether it’s in Kelowna or another area. We’re just super excited to be part of it,” Bill Reid said. The Memorial Cup is set to begin on Friday May 22 in Kelowna. Kitchener will soon find out who they will be facing.
