Brantford could ban fireworks

Brantford City Council is considering a ban on personal fireworks displays.

Councillors will consider a motion on Tuesday that, if approved, will direct staff to begin work banning the use and sale of personal fireworks within city limits starting in 2027.

If council moves forward with the idea, they will join other municipalities, such as Kitchener and Waterloo, who put their own bans in place earlier this year after years of complaints and dangerous incidents.

The use and sale of fireworks is still allowed in the neighbouring Brant County as long as specific rules are adhered to.

Brantford’s city council meeting will get underway at 6 p.m.
