The Tragically Hip have added four new concert dates after presale tickets to their summer tour sold out in minutes on Monday morning.

“Thank you for the support in this morning's registered users pre-sale. Due to overwhelming demand, the following four shows have been added to the Man Machine Poem Tour,” the band said in a Facebook post.

The new tour dates include:

  • July 26 in Vancouver
  • July 30 in Edmonton
  • Aug. 3 in Calgary
  • Aug. 14 in Toronto

Tickets for the original tour dates went on sale Monday morning, but sold out within minutes as thousands jumped at the chance to say farewell to lead singer Gord Downie, who has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

Resale tickets have since started to appear on sites such as StubHub, but fans can expect to pay significantly more for them than the original sale price on Ticketmaster.

Tickets to the Canadian rock band’s August 10 show in Toronto for example are listed on StubHub for anywhere between US $170 and a whopping $2,000 depending on the location of the seats.

Resale tickets to the Tragically Hip’s Vancouver concert on July 24 are listed on the site for as much as $2,800.

Disgruntled fans quickly took to social media to complain on Monday.

StubHub also responded to the flurry of tweets, saying it is “committed to ensuring fans have access to buy and sell tickets to the events they want to see."

The website also said it plans to make a donation to the Sunnybrook Foundation to support brain cancer research.

Presale ticket for the added dates will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
