More than a million in France have seen Quebec director's new film, 'Mommy'

PARIS -- Xavier Dolan's "Mommy" has cracked the one-million mark in terms of moviegoers in France.

The Quebec director took to Twitter to share the news.

"Thank you to everyone who has gone to see my film, who have written me and who have spoken about us," Dolan said.

The film, which has been out in France for more than five weeks, is Canada's foreign-language selection for the Oscars.

Dolan will find out in January if it has made the cut for the ceremony the following month.

A spokesman for the film's French distributor was also thrilled with the movie-going milestone.

"That's what we were dreaming about," said Didier Lacourt, who works for Diaphana.

The film hit 315 screens its first week in France and is now on about 200.
