Water restriction for Strathcona County lifted as Epcor repairs main water line

A water restriction ban in Strathcona county has been lifted after people were asked to reduce their water consumption and limit water use Friday morning.

The county says people can return to normal water use after an emergency repair affected the main later line from Epcor.

Residents were asked to take five-minute showers, turn off the taps while shaving or brushing their teeth, and flush the toilet only when necessary.

“Residents can make a big difference by restricting water use,” Strathcona County utilities director Jason Casault said. “All water conservation measures will help decrease the demand on the water system keeping more water in our reservoirs for essential use.”

The repairs are ongoing, Epcor told CTV News Edmonton. The damage was caused by equipment making contact with the line during course work to upgrade infrastructure.

“The water transmission main supplying Strathcona County continues to operate and supply water as normal,” Epcor said in a statement.

There are no water restrictions in Edmonton, Epcor added.
