An evacuation order for residents living near a forested area east of the town of Redwater remains in effect. The province via its Alberta Emergency Alert service said residents in an area around Sturgeon County’s Redwater Provincial Recreation Area must stay away from their homes under an evacuation order. Redwater is 51 kilometres northeast of Edmonton. People between Township Road 580 south to the North Saskatchewan River and from range roads 203 to 213 must stay away from the area while firefighters work to bring a wildfire that started last weekend under control. On Saturday, officials said the fire showed minimal growth. At 6 p.m., it was more than 3,214 hectares in size, an increase of 14 hectares from Friday. About 150 workers, several pieces of heavy equipment and six helicopters have been used to fight the fire this weekend. All people who have left their homes because of the wildfire can register at the Morinville Leisure Centre or by phone at 587-570-6610.
