Stolen tractor found stuck in snow after police chase in northern Alberta; 1 charged

RCMP say a man, 38, was arrested and charged after a tractor worth about $50,000 was stolen from Cold Lake First Nation.

One man is facing charges after Mounties in northern Alberta located and retrieved a stolen tractor in a snowy chase.

A missing Kubota tractor worth $50,000 was reported stolen on Jan. 5, say Cold Lake RCMP.

On Jan. 28, the tractor was found in motion and fled from police when they attempted to stop it.

Mounties used police dog services, remotely piloted aircraft systems, the crime reduction unit and the Alberta RCMP Real Time Operation Centre to track the machine to a field covered in snow. The tractor then got stuck.

A 38-year-old man from Cold Lake now faces charges of:

• possession of stolen property over $5,000;
• break and enter;
• obstruct police;
• mischief under $5,000;
• failure to stop;
• failure to comply with probation condition; and
• failure to comply with court order.

He was brought before a justice of the peace and remains in court, with another appearance scheduled in Cold Lake on Feb. 9.
