Wood Buffalo RCMP say a 34-year-old man is facing charges of aggravated assault after responding to an incident on MacDonald Avenue in the downtown area of Fort McMurray last week. On June 25, a physical altercation happened between two people who were known to each other at around 10:26 p.m., say police. The victim was struck by a vehicle driven by the suspect and the suspect fled the scene. The suspect returned about two hours later and assaulted the victim with a hammer. The victim was taken by EMS to the Northern Lights Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. RCMP now has surveillance footage of both incidents. The 34-year-old man, a resident of Spruce Grove, faces charges of aggravated assault. He was held for a judicial interim release hearing and remains in custody. He is to appear in court on July 27.
