Although a change by the Alberta government means municipal election results across the province must be counted by hand and are coming in slower, a few races have been unofficially declared in smaller centres. Below is a list of the unofficial results or count progress in the bigger municipalities across northern Alberta as of Tuesday morning. St. Albert: No results Only one voting station has been counted, representing 6.7 per cent of the 16,450 votes cast, which is a 30-per cent voter turnout. See updates here. Strathcona County: Early results in Rod Frank keeps the mayor seat in Strathcona County, with 77 per cent of votes. The county had a voter turnout of 26 per cent. See the full results here. Spruce Grove: Early results in Jeff Acker was re-elected as mayor of Spruce Grove by 72 per cent of voters. See the full results here. Stony Plain: Early results in Without any competition, William Choy was acclaimed as mayor. See the full results here. Fort Saskatchewan: Early results in Fort Saskatchewan has a new mayor, as Gayle Katchur did not seek re-election, instead successfully running to be a councillor. For mayor, residents elected Lisa Makin, a former lawyer who became a child-care program operator. She beat two-term councillor Ajibola Abitoye by earning 62 per cent of the vote. See the full results here. Leduc: Early results in Leduc’s new mayor is Lars Hansen, who beat two opponents with 60 per cent of the vote. He previously served two terms as a councillor. Bob Young, who served two terms as mayor, did not seek re-election. See the full results here. Morinville: Early results in Morinville mayor Simon Boersma was acclaimed. See the full results here. Lacombe: Early results in Thalia Hibbs beat incumbent Grant Creasey to become Lacombe’s next mayor. Hibbs, who served two terms as a councillor, won 37 per cent of the vote, while Creasey earned 32 per cent, and the third candidate, Reuben Calliou, received 31 per cent. Beaumont: Early results in Beaumont residents elected a new mayor: Lisa Vanderkwaak, who earned 39 per cent of the vote against three other candidates. Former mayor Bill Daneluik lost his bid to be a councillor. See the full results here. Red Deer: No results No results are available for Red Deer. The city said it would post the results here once ballots are counted. There were five mayoral candidates running to replace Ken Johnston, who is retiring. Jasper: Early results in Richard Ireland was acclaimed as Jasper’s mayor. See the full results here. Hinton: Early results in Hinton has a new mayor after incumbent Nicholas Nissen was beaten by former councillor Brian LaBerge, who earned more than half of the vote and nearly three times as many votes as Nissen. See the full results here. Grande Prairie: Early results in Jackie Clayton was re-elected as mayor of Grande Prairie, beating seven opponents and earning 38 per cent of votes.
