Pedestrian seriously injured by pickup, 112 St. traffic blocked for investigation: EPS

A crash near the University of Alberta sent a pedestrian to hospital with serious injuries on Thursday.

Edmonton police are advising afternoon commuters around the University of Alberta’s main campus to avoid 112 Street between 87 and 86 Avenue as police investigate a collision between a pickup and a pedestrian.

Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to the intersection of 112 Street and 86 Avenue, where a 38-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 had hit a 23-year-old man at a marked crosswalk, a news release from Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says. The walk light had been activated.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers are diverting traffic from the intersection of 112 Street and 86 Avenue, where a red Ford F-150 with its hazards on was seen sitting. Two dogs were inside the vehicle. EPS said the driver stayed on scene.

Southbound traffic on 112 Street between 86 and 87 Avenue is blocked as police investigate.
