Future childcare space in South Osborne takes step forward

CTV’s Daniel Halmarson gives viewers a look at South Osborne Commons, a new childcare space and neighbourhood hub planned for the community.

A future childcare space and community hub in Winnipeg’s South Osborne neighbourhood is officially becoming a reality.

South Osborne Commons and Churchill Park United Church confirmed Tuesday that a $4.4 million renovation project of the church will be going ahead. The church will be converted into a community hub that will also include a 112-space childcare centre.

The church, located on Beresford Avenue, had decided to convert its space due to a declining congregation and a 2024 report that showed South Osborne and other nearby neighbourhoods as lacking childcare spaces.

The construction will be split into two phases. The first phase will convert the main floor into a childcare space and create an outdoor play area. The second phase will turn the second floor into a community hub and meeting space.

Construction is expected to begin later this year and finish in late 2027.
