Olivia, Noah remain Alberta’s most popular baby names in 2025

For the 13th straight year, Olivia is the number one girl name while Noah secured the top spot for boy names for a seventh straight year.

Olivia and Noah are keeping their titles as Albertans’ favourite boy and girl names for the 13th and seventh, respectively, year in a row.

In 2025, 173 baby girls were named Olivia and 259 baby boys Noah, according to data released on Tuesday.

Of note, Ava fell out of the top 10 girls names list for the first time in over a decade, landing at 22.

Eliana’s eighth place is the first time the name made the top 10.

Of note on the boys names list, Theodore rose from fourth to second place, its highest ranking ever.

A total of 14,581 unique names were used.

“I’m a little surprised after watching Connor McDavid take the Oilers to the Stanley Cup two years in a row. I thought Connor would have made the list,” joked Dale Nally, Alberta’s minister of Service Alberta and red tape reduction, at a news conference.

Only 26 Connors – of various spellings – were born in Alberta last year. (And 60 Leons.)

However, as parents have one year to register a child’s birth, the tallies could change.

Some 52,000 babies were born in the province in 2025.

“Each name on this list represents a family’s hope, a community’s future, and a brand new beginning ready to take shape,” Nally said, congratulating families.
