Justice Thomas Rothwell has been appointed to the Appeal Court of Alberta in Edmonton. Born in Edmonton, Rothwell received a law degree from the University of Alberta in 1997. He served as a law clerk to Honourable Mr. Justice J.C. Major at the Supreme Court of Canada before joining the Edmonton firm of Reynolds, Mirth, Richards and Farmer LLP in 1998. In 2004 he joined Alberta Justice practicing in the areas of Aboriginal, constitutional and health law and serving as assistant deputy minister of the legal services division. Rothwell was appointed to the Alberta Court of King’s Bench in 2020. The Alberta Court of Appeal hears civil and criminal appeals from trial courts, boards, and tribunals across the province.
