Kaleido festival returns despite funding shortfall The Kaleido Family Arts Festival will return to Edmonton this weekend. Amanda Anderson has a preview.

The 2024 Kaleido Family Arts Festival starts on Friday.

The annual family-friendly festival is free to attend and has brought art, music and shopping to thousands of people for nearly two decades.

It will feature art galleries, street performances and market vendors along 118 Avenue between 90 and 95 Street, including alleys and rooftops.

"The street basically transcends into a little artisan village," said festival general manager Christy Morin.

"You're going to see different types and disciplines of the arts, and music, and theatre, and visual arts and artisans all coming together to blend into a beautiful celebration on Alberta Ave."

This is the 19th year for the festival, which is run by Arts of the Ave, a non-profit aiming to promote community arts in the Alberta Avenue community.

Morin said between 60,000 and 70,000 people are expected to stop by the festival over the weekend.

A Go Fund Me has been created to help with festival costs, saying funding for the event has "fallen short" by $50,000 for this year's event.
