Fire weather advisory issued for Alberta

Fire crews were called out to battle a grass fire in Edmonton Saturday, May 11, in a field near Rabbit Hill Road and Anthony Henday Drive.

The province has issued a fire weather advisory for central and southern Alberta.

Dry conditions and strong winds are expected to push the fire hazard to extreme levels on Sunday and Monday.

Officials said that wildfires that occur in these conditions may spread uncontrollably.

All burning permits in the Forest Protection Area of the province have been cancelled and no new permits will be issued.

Any burning except for campfires should be extinguished.

Many areas across the province also have fire bans in effect.
