Mounties say they’re investigating the possibility that a fatal shooting on Alberta’s busiest highway over the weekend is related to road rage. The driver of a Honda Civic was killed around 2:50 p.m. on Saturday on the QEII near Township Road 490. He has been identified as a 22-year-old Edmonton man, but his name has not been released. Police say a white or grey dirty pickup with a large decal on the back window was seen pulling up next to the Civic before speeding off south while the Civic pulled over to the side of the road. “Investigation has revealed that a weapon was discharged towards the Honda Civic, resulting in the death of the driver,” RCMP said in a weekend news release. Investigators are now looking for dashcam footage from the area. “We’re asking anybody that would have been out on the QEII at that time to have a look at that dashcam,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of Alberta RCMP told CTV News Edmonton on Monday. “You’re looking for this pickup truck, very dirty, with this large decal on the back window of it, and if you have it, please, please contact police and let us know,” he continued. “Right now, we don’t have any photographs or visuals of our suspect vehicle, and I think that would be very important in this investigation.” Savinkoff says police are taking the shooting extremely seriously, given the proximity to other motorists. “It’s a busy highway to begin with, and certainly an incident like this happening in broad daylight on a busy weekend day is pretty shocking,” he said. “A lot of our shootings occur at nighttime and in secluded areas and off the beaten path.
