A family in a northeast Edmonton neighbourhood are mourning the death of five-year-old Ali Sayed Abou Alhassan after he was run over by a Jeep Monday morning. A makeshift memorial for Alhassan has grown over the last 24 hours with flowers and stuffed animals. “I feel so sorry for the mom,” said Claudia Miranda who witnessed the incident. Police said a 25-year-old woman driving a Jeep Cherokee struck Alhassan near the entrance of a residential complex in the area of 62 Street and McConachie Boulevard. Asha Omar, another witness, said the driver told her she didn’t see Alhassan, and thought maybe there were clothes or a blanket on the road. It was reported that Alhassan was running eastbound on the sidewalk and fell on the ground before getting hit. The woman called 911 and he was taken to hospital by EMS where he later died. Officers with the Major Collisions Unit are still investigating. They do not believe speed or alcohol to be factors. The driver has not been charged. With files from CTV News Edmonton’s Connor Hogg
