Edmonton weather: Heat streak lasts through the weekend

According to CTV Edmonton's Cory Edel's forecast, we could have a record-breaking weekend of temperature.

The heat streak will continue for three more days in Edmonton.

The city’s had daytime highs above 25 C for the past four days and for five of the past six days.

The average high for mid-September is 18 C and we’ll be about 10 degrees warmer than that today and this weekend.

That’ll put us in line to take a run at some records. In Edmonton, the record highs are:

We’ll be very close to all those record highs and we should stay mainly sunny through today and Saturday.

Air quality improved Thursday and we’ll stay in the low-to-moderate risk range through today and the weekend.

The worst air quality in the province this morning is in the Jasper region north to the Peace County and around Fort McMurray.

Air quality statements are in effect for those areas.

There’s some uncertainty with the Sunday outlook and I’ve added a 30-per cent chance of a late-day shower to the forecast.

It looks like we’ll have an area of low pressure move into the province. That’ll probably set off some showers in western Alberta and the Red Deer to Calgary areas.

Steadier rain is expected in the foothills Monday.

For the Edmonton area, it’s not overly likely that we’ll get rain, but there’s at least a chance of some scattered showers later in the day Sunday.

Cooler air moves in for next week as daytime highs drop back into the low 20s for the start of the week.

We’ll continue to cool through the end of the week with daytime highs expected to be in the 17 to 20 C range. (Which is still no worse than average.)
