Edmonton weather: Heat and haze continue

Temperatures hit 27.5 C on Monday and we’ll be 28 C or 29 C in Edmonton this afternoon.

Air Quality Health Index readings are expected to remain in the moderate risk range due to some lingering wildfire smoke and we’ll probably see a similar level of haziness on Wednesday in and around the Edmonton region.

An area of low pressure slides across northern Alberta today, bringing some scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms to northern Alberta.

The cold front trailing south and east of that system will also set off some widely scattered showers in north-central Alberta this evening and overnight. These will be VERY hit-n-miss and I think most areas will get missed.

I’ve add the slight risk of a scattered shower to the Edmonton forecast for tonight and early Wednesday morning.

There’s probably still a some clouds hanging around in the morning tomorrow, then clearing as the day goes on.

Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 20s through Wednesday-Friday and the weekend. The warmest days will likely be today and Thursday and Friday.

I’m going with highs of 27 C Thursday/Friday, but some of the modelling pushes us closer to 30, which we be in record-setting territory.

The record high for today (Sept. 9) is 32.9 C, so there’s no way we’re breaking that.

But, Thursday’s record high is 29.0 C and Friday’s is 29.8 C. While it’s unlikely we’ll break those records, we’ll be a lot closer to them than to the seasonal average high of 19 C.

Looking long range: Pretty good chance for some showers or steadier rain on Monday and temperatures will drop back to the 18 to 22 C range for highs next week.
