An Edmonton high school teacher has been charged with sex crimes involving a child. Dylan James Shott, 32, was arrested on Thursday after police received a complaint that he sexually assaulted a girl between February 2024 and January 2025. The girl was not one of his students. Shott has been charged with luring a child, sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching and sexual interference. He was released on conditions not to have any contact or communication with anyone under the age of 16. Shott previously taught at M.C. LaZerte High School in Edmonton. “Edmonton Public Schools is aware of charges laid against a teacher at M.E. LaZerte School. We are cooperating with police as they investigate,” EPSB spokesperson Veronica Jubinville said in an email to CTV News Edmonton on Friday. “The safety and well-being of students is at the core of our commitment as a school division; it’s a responsibility we take extremely seriously.” Jubinville says Shott is no longer at the school.
