A group of Grade 6 students in Edmonton have raised $10,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Students at A. Blair McPherson school managed to raise the amount of money it actually takes to fulfill a wish for a child. In previous years, their goal was around $2,000-3,000. “We worked at this all year. They had bake sales, they sold candygrams on Valentine’s Day, we had a bottle drive, they sold freezies, and we had a raffle lunch with teachers,” said teacher Shannon Morris. “They ran everything themselves. They counted money. They learned about income and expenses. It was a great project for the kids, and just being able to give back to the community.” Four years ago, Morris had a student who had just applied for a wish. That student – who is now in Grade 9 – was what personally inspired her classes. The students presented a cheque to the foundation on Tuesday. “I feel really proud to give someone a wish, especially when they’re going through a tough time,” said Grade 6 student Manreet Brar.
