Recent announcements by Porter Airlines about new flights coming to London International Airport (YXU) has prompted the London Transit Commission (LTC) to investigate improving bus service for travellers. On Monday, a motion by London Transit Commissioner Coun. Sam Trosow called for a review before the next LTC meeting, “The airport is currently served by Route 36 which runs from Fanshawe College, and the purpose of this motion is request a staff report about the potential for direct service from downtown London to the airport.” “It’s generally felt in this city that the connections to the airport are very poor,” Trosow told CTV News after the meeting. “People are forced to take very expensive connections, or use a motor vehicle, so this would be a great opportunity for us to up our service.” Trosow’s motion received no support from colleagues on the commission, but it was followed by a related motion from Mayor Josh Morgan. Morgan’s motion directed the LTC to engage with the airport and city hall about potential passenger volumes and possible destinations within the city for those arriving or departing from the airport. It also didn’t exclude a direct link to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stop at Fanshawe College. Trosow broadened the scope of the motion with an amendment that added consultation with Tourism London and the RBC Place Convention Centre. “I want Tourism London and the Convention Centre to be part of this discussion because they’re going to have a lot of information about how many people might be affected,” Trosow explained. “We might want to use the front of the Convention Centre or some other downtown depot as a starting place for this. Let’s make it easy for people when they get off the plane in London to see that there are alternative routes to get into downtown.” In August, Porter announced it would begin offering winter flights from London to sun destinations in Florida, Mexico and Jamaica. Earlier this month the airline announced it will begin domestic flights to Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver in Spring 2027.
