A woman is being treated for critical injuries after being struck by a vehicle near Billings Bridge. Police and paramedics responded to a call for a collision involving a pedestrian on Riverside Drive at Bronson Avenue at approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Ottawa paramedics spokesperson Marc-Antoine Deschamps says a woman was struck by a vehicle. Deschamps says paramedics treated the woman for life-threatening injuries at the scene, and she was transported to the hospital in critical condition. A second pedestrian was not hurt. Deschamps says the driver of the vehicle, an adult male, was assessed at the scene and released from care. The Ottawa Police Service says the northbound lanes of Riverside Drive are closed between Heron Road and Data Centre Road due to a collision. The northbound and southbound off-ramps to Riverside Drive from Bronson Avenue are also closed. “Traffic is being redirected,” police said. “Please avoid the area and expect significant delays on your morning commute.” Last week, two pedestrians were killed in collisions on Ottawa’s roads. A 78-year-old woman died from her injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Friel Street Thursday morning. Last Wednesday, a 60-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed in Barrhaven.
