A man is dead following a two-vehicle collision Monday morning on Anthony Henday Drive in southwest Edmonton. Edmonton police said in a media release Monday afternoon officers went to the scene at 8:30 a.m. on eastbound Anthony Henday near Heritage Valley Trail. They said a Volkswagen Passat had reportedly broken down in the far right lane when it was struck from behind by a Ram pickup truck being driven at highway speed by a 23-year-old man. The 27-year-old man who died at the scene was the sole occupant of the Volkswagen, police said. Paramedics treated the driver of the truck and took him to hospital for precautionary reasons. Police continue to investigate the crash and ask anyone who witnessed it or who has dash-camera footage of it to contact them at 780-423-4567. The major ring road highway reopened to traffic in the mid-afternoon. Police had closed the eastbound lanes of the Henday near 111 Street and diverted traffic onto Heritage Valley Trail S.W. Online maps indicated several reports of collisions on the stretch of the Henday by early Monday afternoon.
