95 Ave. to reopen to 4 lanes for winter

The City of Edmonton says phase two of its 95 Avenue renewal project is being put on hold so traffic can move safely during the winter.

There is now one less construction-heavy area in the city as 95 Avenue has opened back up to four lanes ahead of the winter driving season.

The city’s 95 Avenue Renewal Project has made “significant progress” this year, according to a media release on Wednesday, and most construction work in the area is done save for minor work and repairs.

Roads have been reopened between 182 Street to 170 Street and now feature a shared pathway along the south side of 95 Avenue between the two streets. Road resurfacing has also been done from 178 Street to 170 Street.

Phase 2 of the city’s project, the area between 163 Street and 170 Street, is complete for the 2025 construction season. The work included road reconstruction, sidewalk and curb replacement, bus stop improvements and new street lighting.

New stormwater drainage infrastructure was also added behind the sidewalk from 167 Street to 165 Street.

The westbound lanes on the north side of 95 Avenue are also now open.

The city says construction is set to resume next year in the spring to complete Phase 2 of the remaining work on the south side of 95 Avenue.
