5.2-magnitude earthquake recorded in northern Alberta

An earthquake in northern Alberta Thursday morning may have been felt in surrounding communities, officials say.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the 5.2-magnitude quake was recorded at 8:41 a.m. MT.

The epicenter, located approximately halfway between Grande Prairie and Grande Cache, was about five kilometres deep, the agency says. The location is approximately 345 kilometers west of Edmonton.

Two hours after the event, Earthquakes Canada had not received any reports of it being felt, but the agency said it is possible residents of Edson, Grande Prairie, and Whitecourt, Alta., and Prince George, B.C., experienced it.
