50 Street bridge over Whitemud Drive opens a year ahead of schedule: city

The 50 Street bridge over Whitemud Drive opened all lanes for commuters Monday. Construction was expected to be complete in 2026.

The 50 Street bridge that crosses Whitemud Drive opened this weekend to all traffic lanes, one year ahead of schedule, said the city.

“Efficient planning, coordination and delivery were key to completing the project ahead of schedule, ensuring better value for Edmontonians while also enhancing safety and reliability for all users of the bridge,” said a statement from the city.

Improvements to the bridge and bridge deck include drainage, pedestrian and cyclist barriers, and structural repairs to extend the bridge’s lifespan.

“With all lanes reopening, Edmontonians can expect better traffic flow and easier travel through this corridor,” said the city.
