Nine Albertans received the highest honour in the province on Thursday, three of them Edmontonians. The Alberta Order of Excellence is bestowed upon a citizen whose contributions have formed and advanced the province’s history and place both in Canada and globally. Lt.-Gov. Salma Lakhani inducted the honourees at Government House on Thursday afternoon. Members of the Order are an official part of the Canadian Honours System. Three Edmontonians will now get to add the post nominals AOE to their name: Sine Chadi, John Day and Doug Stollery. Chadi is a businessman, former MLA and philanthropist who was recognized for his contributions to Alberta’s civic and cultural life through work with institutions like the Al Rashid Mosque, the Glenrose Hospital Foundation and the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts. Day is credited as helping shape both Edmonton’s and Jasper’s urban and cultural landscape through his work in several law, business and development organizations. Stollery, who currently serves as president of the Stollery Charitable Foundation, recently completed his term as chancellor, chair of the Senate and Board of Governors member at the University of Alberta. Other Albertans receiving the honour include Geoff Cumming, Brian and Stephanie Felesky of Calgary, Nichole Neubauer of Medicine Hat, Lyn Radford of Red Deer and John Scott of Longview.
