$242K in drugs seized in Fort McMurray, 6 people facing 35 charges

Six people are facing a combined 35 charges after nearly a quarter million dollars in drugs were seized in northern Alberta.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) executed search warrants at three homes and two vehicles in Fort McMurray on April 13.

More than two kilograms of cocaine as well as a number of illicit prescription pills were seized along with two handguns, nearly 100 rounds of ammunition and $5,320 in cash.

One of the searched vehicles is being held as offence related property.

Police say neither of the handguns were legally possessed because the suspects were under court orders not to possess firearms.

The drugs have an approximate street value of $242,000.

Six people are facing drug and firearms charges including a 22-year-old, a 26-year-old, a 29-year-old and a 38-year-old.

Two 26-year-olds are still at large and their whereabouts are unknown.

The other four suspects remain in custody.
