A Quebec teenager arrested last year on terrorism-related charges had the phone number of a terror suspect who deliberately struck and killed a Canadian Forces soldier, court heard on Thursday.

Court heard that the teen, who cannot be named, had a phone number in his pocket that belonged to Martin Couture-Rouleau, the man police said was responsible for the death of warrant officer Patrice Vincent.

On Oct. 20, 2014, Vincent and another soldier were struck by a car in a parking lot in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que.

After a car chase, police fatally shot Couture-Rouleau.  Vincent later died of his injuries.

The teen currently on trial was arrested in October 2014 after he allegedly robbed a Montreal convenience store. He was 15 years old at the time.

Police allege he committed the robbery in order to fund a trip overseas and join a terrorist group.

Court heard that the teen had Couture-Rouleau’s phone number in his pocket.  The RCMP’s interrogation of the boy was also shown in court.

The teen was grilled for hours, but he refused to answer most questions. He also denied knowing that Couture-Rouleau was planning his deadly rampage.

But later in the interrogation, the teen admitted to asking Couture-Rouleau for money in order to buy a weapon.

The trial continues until the end of the month.
