Young life lost in fatal fall from southwest balcony

Harman Boparai fell from a sixth floor balcony while visiting a friend.

A Calgary family is devastated after a 23-year-old man was killed in a freak accident at a condo complex in Killarney on the weekend.

Harman Boparai died after he fell from a sixth floor, condo balcony in the 1900 block of 25A Street SW on Friday night.

The medical examiner has ruled his death an accident and police have determined that foul play was not a factor in the incident.

Boparai was going into his final year in business at Mount Royal University this fall and wanted to help run his family’s businesses when he graduated.

He was helping out in one of the family’s stores on Friday night and went to a friend’s home in the Killarney area after work.

No one knows what led up to the fatal fall and his uncle says the family is having trouble making sense out of what happened.

“It’s such a tragic loss for the family, it’s a very tough time for us. We are a big family, we have been here for a long time and we have a good family connection and we will pull it through but it’s going to be very hard,” said Sukhjinder Boparai.

The family is now planning a funeral for the young man and his friends and cousins have organized a vigil on Monday at 9:00 p.m. at the building where the tragedy happened to honour him
