Witnesses of fatal Stoney Trail crash asked to come forward by Calgary police

One person was killed and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Stoney Trail on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

Calgary police are asking for witnesses to come forward as they investigate a deadly crash on Stoney Trail last month that took the life of a 25-year-old man.

The collision happened in the northbound lanes, south of the Bow Trail interchange, just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 29.

Investigators say a southbound Toyota 4 Runner left the road, travelling across the grassy median and entering the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail, where it rolled before being hit by a northbound Dodge Caliber.

The driver of the 4 Runner was ejected from the vehicle. He hit a large overhead directional sign and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Caliber, a 25-year-old woman, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries, while a passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police want to speak with anyone who saw the crash occur, specifically the drivers of two light-coloured SUVs and one dark-coloured SUV.

“It is believed the SUVs witnessed the Toyota 4Runner crossing the median from southbound Stoney Trail S.W. into the northbound lanes of Stoney Trail,” police said in a Monday news release.

“Police believe witnesses may have key information that can help advance the investigation.”
