A 16-year-old girl and a 40-year-old man are facing charges after Calgary police discovered a cache of weapons and illegal drugs inside a vehicle stopped near 17 Avenue.

Officers pulled the vehicle over near the intersection of 17 Avenue and Fifth Street S.W. just before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Police say the 40-year-old man – who was the one driving – had no licence, and an open container of alcohol was spotted inside the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators seized a loaded shotgun, knives, pepper spray, $4,650 in cash and nearly $10,000 worth of illegal drugs.

The 40-year-old faces 21 charges including four counts of carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The 16-year-old is facing 20 charges.

Both are set to appear in court later this month.
