Victim, hurt in fight at Calgary McDonald’s, dies in hospital

Calgary police have charged a 79-year-old man with aggravated assault after a fight in the parking lot of a northwest McDonald’s restaurant.

At 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a fight between two men at the business at 63 Crowfoot Way N.W.

When officers arrived, they spoke with both men, who declined medical attention and any police involvement.

Calgary police cleared the scene and one of the men left the restaurant.

About two hours later, emergency crews were called back to the restaurant after the other man, who was 76, appeared to be in medical distress.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition and died Thursday.

Police charged Chiu Man Yuen with aggravated assault prior to the other man’s death.

An autopsy was conducted Friday.

“As the final autopsy results are still pending toxicology and neuropathy, the manner of death currently remains undetermined,” police said in a release.

Police said the deceased man “will not be publicly identified at this time.”

Police have previously said that depending on the final outcome of the autopsy, upgraded charges may be laid.

Police say the two men knew each other.

They also believe there may have been witnesses to the fight and are asking anyone with information to contact police at 403-266-1234.
