Two Calgary Flames prospects will face off for the Memorial Cup. Starting on Friday, the Medicine Hat Tigers, Moncton Wildcats, London Knights and host team Rimouski Oceanic will hit the ice to determine Canada’s junior hockey title. The Flames will have two representatives at the tournament: forward Andrew Basha of the Medicine Hat Tigers and defenceman Étienne Morin of the Moncton Wildcats. Basha was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft. He missed a significant chunk of the season due to an ankle injury but returned for Medicine Hat’s WHL championship series against the Spokane Chiefs. The 19-year-old had nine goals and 20 assists in 23 games during the regular season. He added two goals and three assists in five games on the way to the Tigers’ WHL championship. Morin, a second-round pick in 2023, had 20 points – two goals and 18 assists – in 19 playoff games, en route to the Wildcats claiming the QMJHL title. The 20-year-old defender finished the regular season with 14 goals and 44 points in 62 games. His 44 assists were good for second on the team. The tournament begins at the Coliseum Sun Life Financial in Rimouski on Friday night at 5 p.m. MDT, with the Basha and the Tigers taking on the host Oceanic. Morin’s tournament begins with Moncton facing off against the Knights at 4 p.m. MDT on Saturday. Moncton and Medicine Hat will play their round-robin matchup on Monday at 5 p.m. MDT.
