A pedestrian is dead after being struck on a southwest Calgary road on Thursday night. It’s the third fatal crash in the city involving a pedestrian in less than two days. EMS said one adult was declared deceased in Thursday night’s collision. It happened just after 8:30 p.m. at Woodpark Boulevard and 117 Avenue S.W., according to police. The police traffic unit was called to investigate. Police closed Woodpark Boulevard between Anderson Road and Woodview Drive S.W. in the aftermath of the incident. One of the earlier deadly collisions involving a pedestrian happened on Wednesday just after 9 p.m. in the intersection of 17 Avenue and 38 Street S.E. A 47-year-old man was killed in that incident. And another happened on Thursday around 7:40 a.m. in the 900 block of Riverbend Drive S.E. In that incident, a woman in her 70s died. In a release issued on Thursday, police noted October is Pedestrian Safety Month in the Alberta Traffic Safety Calendar. Police encouraged “motorists and pedestrians to watch out for one another to ensure everyone’s safety.” In Thursday’s release, police also said 2025 has so far seen “29 fatal collisions in Calgary, tying last year’s 10-year record high.
