Theatre Calgary adds 5 more performances of hit solo show Made in Italy

Farren Timoteo returns to Theatre Calgary with Made in Italy, at the Martha Cohen Theatre in the Werklund Centre.

The Calgary theatre season is only one show old, and it already has its first holdover hit.

Theatre Calgary announced Tuesday that Made in Italy, Farren Timoteo’s solo show about the comic misadventures of a young Italian immigrant growing up in Jasper and Edmonton, has added five additional performances.

Originally, the show, now on at the Martha Cohen Theatre at Werklund Centre (formerly Arts Commons), was scheduled to close Sept. 21.

It will now run through Sept. 27.

It’s actually the second time around for Made in Italy, which was such a hit in its 2023 run that Theatre Calgary brought it back.

“It has been so wonderful to have Farren share his humour, energy, and heart with our audiences again this season,” Theatre Calgary artistic director Stafford Arima said in a release.

“Made in Italy is injected with so much tradition, culture, and reverence to what a family is, and Farren makes it relatable for all of us. We are over the moon that we can give more audiences a chance to see it for the first time, or return for a second-helping."

The semi-autobiographical show features two dozen different characters to tell the story of Francesco’s tempestuous relationship with his father Salvatore.

In one memorable scene, Timoteo plays every character at a dinner party -- and it all leads to an opportunity to perform live on a CTV talent show broadcast from Edmonton.
