Along with health care, Alberta Budget 2026 sees several other projects receiving funding in the southern part of the province. The government will fund $152 million for Highway 3 twinning between Medicine Hat and Seven Persons. The University of Lethbridge will receive $35 million over three years to develop the Southern Alberta Medical Program. The province is investing $10 billion into education, including $3 billion to support 161 new and ongoing school projects. Three new school projects in southern Alberta were announced in this year’s budget. “We definitely appreciate the investment from the Government of Alberta and Alberta Ed to support education,” said Kyle Beauchamp, Lethbridge School Division associate superintendent of business affairs. “What that exactly means for Lethbridge School Division in specific details, we don’t exactly know that yet until our funding profile comes out, but we are excited to hear there is continuing investment.” Over three years, $2 million will be allocated to Medicine Hat College for its Centre for Community Wellness Project.
